How to book?

Appointments can be booked over the telephone, in person at reception or online.

Practice Nurses

In a number of cases it might be worth considering an appointment with a practice nurse rather than a doctor. Practice nurses are qualified to deal with many conditions and you may be seen more quickly.

Telephone Calls

Some times a quick phone call with the doctor, nurse or health care assistant will help solve your problem. We also triage appointment requests and doctor may call you back on the same day depending on the clinical need and urgency. Please note that the doctor reviews all the phone call requests and returns the calls usually on the same day. But some times, depending on the problem, you may not get the call back on the same day.

Cancellations

If you cannot attend an appointment for any reason please inform us as soon as possible in order for us to give the slot to someone else. Anyone who misses 3 appointments will only be seen in open access surgery.

Enhanced Access

We are proud to announce that GP practices in the Tolson Primary Care Network now offer appointments on an evening and on Saturdays.

Appointments are available both in person and by telephone with a variety of clinicians including:

  • GP
  • Health Care Assistant
  • Dietician
  • Health and Wellbeing Coach

These appointments are available at different sites in the local area.

At Greenhead Family Doctors we offer a late clinic on Wednesdays up to 7:30pm.

Home Visits

If you can get out of your home with or with out help, please DO NOT request a home visit as our home visiting requests are extremely high.

If you are out side the practice area and require a home visit, this can be done by ringing 111 and mentioning GP choice scheme. Some call handlers at 111 may not be aware of this service, if thats the case, please ask to be connected to their manager. They then will give you a GP surgery phone number which is closer to your home who will send a Doctor out to see you. Once you are recovered and able to come to the surgery, you can book appointment to see the Doctor.

Whilst we encourage our patients to come to the surgery, where we have the proper equipment and facilities available, we do appreciate this is not always possible. In this respect, if you do need a home visit, you can help us by calling reception before 10:30.

Non-urgent advice: Notice

To provide the safe service, we can only do a maximum of 3 home visits each day and we triage all the visit requests.

Your Doctor will only visit you at home if they think that your medical condition requires it and will also decide how urgently a visit is needed. Please bear this in mind and be prepared to provide suitable details to our receptionist which enables the doctor to triage house calls appropriately.

You can also be visited at home by a community nurse if you are referred by your Doctor. You should also be visited at home by a health visitor if you have recently had a baby or if you are newly registered with a Doctor and have a child under five years.
